Review: Man Boobs

The Treatment Of Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is very common in boys aged from 9-13 years old. Although it may be embarrassing at that age, it is completely normal and will mostly likely disappear as they move into adulthood. Gynecomastia in adults may be an indication that there is a hormone imbalance. If you have it, and you are not obese, then it is a goo idea to visit you doctor to determine the cause.

Gynecomastia can be caused by an imbalance of estrogen in the body. This results in ‘man boobs’, an increase in size of the mammary glands in men. It can be caused by taking certain medications, or can be an indication of testicular cancer.

Discovering the underlying cause of gynecomastia is the first step in finding a treatment. If it is caused by your medication, there may be an alternative available that does not have the same side effect. Gynecomastia can also be linked to liver failure, steroid use, alcoholic cirrhosis, or people with Klinefelter’s syndrome.

Things You Can Do

There are a number of pills available on the market that claim to be effective in the treatment of gynecomastia. Most of these will not have undergone stringent trials and tests. They may prove to have little to no effect at all.

There is plastic surgery available, but these options won’t help you if your gynecomastia is caused by a hormone imbalance. You must see a medical professional and determine the cause of your gynecomastia. Your doctor may be able to prescribe pills that can lower your estrogen levels, or if your medication is causing it, prescribe an alternative.

If it is an indication of a much larger problem, then this needs to be diagnosed as soon as possible so that you can start to treat it. Gynecomastia can indicate the presence of testicular cancer, which needs to be addressed straight away. If you do notice a marked increase in your mammary glands then make sure that you see a health professional as soon as you can to make sure that it is not a result of anything serious.

Once the cause is diagnosed you can start to find a way of addressing the issue that is suitable for you. You do not need to live with gynecomastia. There are solutions available. Talk to your general practitioner to find the best solution for you.
